Running Rehab

Never limit where running can take you. I mean that geographically, spiritually and of course physically

At Albany Sport and Spine Physical Therapy, our therapists have extensive experience treating all varieties of running related injuries and runners of all ages and abilities. Wherever your running goals may lead you, the physical therapists at Corvallis and Albany Sport and Spine will help you get there. Ultramarathoners, youth athletes, triathletes, people new to running, and everyone in between have found success at our clinics recovering from their injuries and often improving their performance.

When you come to Corvallis and Albany Sport and Spine for an assessment of your running related injury, you can expect a comprehensive exam starting with a detailed history of your symptoms and running experience. Your therapist will then look at how your body moves and functions as a whole and at the individual joint and muscle levels to determine the underlying cause of your injury. Sometimes the source of pain is local to the area it is experienced, but quite often the pain you are experiencing may be caused by a mobility or strength deficiency elsewhere that is leading to movement inefficiencies causing excess stress and strain at the location that is bothering you.

When appropriate, a running analysis will be conducted to better understand why your symptoms may be occurring. Your therapist will then work with you to help improve your form and efficiency to allow you to return to running pain free and with decreased risk of injury in the future.

Every runner, individual, and injury is unique, which is why you won’t just be handed a certain set of exercises because you have knee pain and sent on your way. Your plantar fasciitis may be different than your friend’s and therefore require a different treatment approach. Your therapist will work with you to develop an individualized plan through hands on therapies, exercise, and movement retraining to address your specific needs and goals. We know that when the foot hits the ground everything in your body changes, so we thoroughly take a whole- body approach which also includes a running shoe assessment and recommendation.
